Quizzes often feel dry, repetitive, and disconnected from meaningful context — making it hard for learners to stay motivated or retain what they’ve learned. The Last Linguist tackles this by turning a standard grammar quiz into an interactive, story-driven mission. Learners help a linguist-bot regain its lost humanity by answering grammar questions woven into a sci-fi narrative, making every choice feel purposeful and engaging.

I created The Last Linguist to transform a standard grammar quiz into a more playful, story-driven experience. Inspired by sci-fi adventures, I used Articulate Storyline to weave in gamification and logic, allowing every correct choice to advance the story. The experience is grounded in Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction — to capture attention, guide discovery, and reinforce learning — and rooted in Constructivist principles, where learners build meaning through decisions, not just content. While the questions focus on Bloom’s lower-order skills (recall, understand, apply), they’re delivered in a way that feels contextual rather than clinical. Continuous peer feedback helped me refine the pacing and ensure the entire flow remained engaging and cohesive.
